Drummer/percussionist Michael Raynor has lived in Chicago since 1988, where he has worked with a wide array of musicians from Yma Sumac to chamber groups including members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His focus is mainly jazz, though, including gigs with Kurt Elling, Fareed Haque, and over twenty years, and counting, with legendary saxophonist Von Freeman.
In 2004, Raynor was selected to tour as a U.S. Jazz Ambassador throughout Southeast Asia. The six week tour, co-sponsored by the U.S. State Department and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, is a unique cultural exchange designed to bring jazz around the world.
His latest project, The Dennis Luxion/Michael Raynor Quartet, was chosen by Jazz at Lincoln Center to tour Africa in January 2012 as part of the Rhythm Road project. Their trip will include concerts and master classes in Malawi, Angola, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. to be put on the mailing list and hear about upcoming shows.
"Drummer Michael Raynor plays with consistent good taste and imagination."
